Dupuytren's disease which curls the fingers into the palm, can be treated in the office, if the cause is a single cord in the palm.
If you have an easily palpable and prominent cord in the palm, which causes an incomplete extension of a finger, this can be divided in the office under local anaesthesia. You will have a small wound in the palm, which will heal by itself.
You need to wash your hand with soap and water after the first 24 hours and then just cover the wound with a BandAid every day, until healed.
There is an almost 100% recurrence rate from this operation after 3 years, but you can prolong this period by stretching the finger.
There is no downtime with this operation and this does not preclude further more complicated surgery in the future.
If you think you are a candidate for this surgery or want to inquire, ring 613 416 0004 and book an appointment with a referral from your FP.
