Thigh lifts is an operation to reshape the thighs, smooth the skin, remove excess skin and fat.
The scars from a thigh lift can be:
• Either in the upper inner thigh, right at the superior junction of the thigh and towards and into the buttock crease or
• From the upper inner thigh up either side of the mons (pubic area)
• If there is a large amount of excess skin around the knee an additional scar down the inside of the thigh may have to be added to obtain the best result
Barbara Jemec will discuss and explain the best option for you with you at the consultation.
Thigh lifts is performed under General Anaesthesia. You will have a drain (thin plastic tube to drain away excess tissue fluid) from each thigh, which is removed the next day.
You can go home the same day or stay in overnight and you will have painkillers and antibiotics to take home.
The wounds are taped and you are advised to wear a supportive pair of knee length lycra shorts for the next 6 weeks, during which time you should avoid vigorous exercise. Depending on your job you should take 1-2 weeks off work.
The potential complications from thigh lifts surgery are:
• Bad scars (you will have scars but they are usually not bad)
• A bleed in the thigh which necessitates your return to theatres for the blood to be removed
• Infection
