All Handsurgery requires Hand Therapy and you will be able to see the Hand Therapist the same day of your consultation.
All Handsurgery carries the risk of Complex Regional Pain Syndrome, which is an abnormal reaction to trauma. It is a very rare reaction, but can be very disabling. The symptoms include: severe pain, not controlled by painkillers, a change in skin colour to purple or darker, swollen fingers and hands, a severely reduced mobility of the hand, changed sweating of the hand and abnormal hairgrowth on the hand.
It is imperative that this is recognised early for maximum recovery, so if you feel that your pain is disproportionate to the surgery you have had, you must contact Barbara Jemec as soon as possible. The treatment consists of intense physiotherapy and specialist pain medication.
