A chin implant is inserted when the chin is felt to be too small and to balance the face

You will be fairly swollen for the first week and it is imperative that you maintain excellent oral hygiene by washing out your mouth with an antibacterial mouthwash for the first five days post-op. It is also advisable to eat only soft food for the first five days to avoid displacement of the implant. Your lower lip will swell and you may have altered sensation of the lower lip for up to three months post-op.
You can go home the same day and you will have painkillers and antibiotics to take home.
You should sleep with three pillows or a couple of phone books under the head end of your bed and avoid bending down for the first three days at least. You may be bruised and swollen for up to two 2 weeks, during which time you should avoid vigorous exercise. Depending on your job you should take 1-2 weeks off work.

Chin reduction is performed when the chin is felt to be too prominent and to balance the face.

Before surgery I need to get some specialist x-ray of your jaw to assess the bone quality.

You will be fairly swollen for the couple of weeks and it is imperative that you maintain excellent oral hygiene by washing out your mouth with an antibacterial mouthwash for the first five days post-op. It is advisable to eat only soft food for the first five days and the sensation of the lower lip may be altered for up to three months.
