Cheek implants are inserted to accentuate the cheek bones and balance the face.

A non-surgical alternative lasting approximately 6 months is achievable with SubQ (http://www.restylane.com) on an outpatient basis.

The scars from cheek implants are hidden inside the mouth.

Cheek implants are performed under General Anaesthesia.
You will be fairly swollen for the first week and it is imperative that you maintain excellent oral hygiene by washing out your mouth with an antibacterial mouthwash for the first five days post-op. It is also advisable to eat only soft food for the first five days to avoid displacement of the implants.
You can go home the same day and you will have painkillers and antibiotics to take home.

You should sleep with three pillows or a couple of phone books under the head end of your bed and avoid bending down for the first three days at least. You may be bruised and swollen for up to two 2 weeks, during which time you should avoid vigorous exercise.

Depending on your job you should take 1-2 weeks off work.

The potential complications from cheek implants surgery are:
• A bleed
• Infection
• Asymmetry
